Winter notes

Barneys New York Look Book
The Barneys lookbook popped in my inbox this morning and I love the simplicity and wearability of the women's styling in the series, which is called "Forever Faithful" with a focus on classics. This look in particular is so great - simple and yet stunning, no? I've been wanting a pair of black loafers this season. Any recommendations?

Bass Wayfarer

Uniqlo Oxford
I've heard good things about Uniqlo's oxford shirts, but unfortunately, these and a few other items I'm wanting are sold out online. Hopefully they will restock soon.

What looks have you been drawn to this winter season?

  1. Oh these are beautiful. I've even wanting to get loafers for some time now too. I can attest to the true loveliness of UNIQLO oxfords n I too can't wait for them to restock.

    1. Joy, that's good to know. Yeah, I'm literally eyeing 5 different items, not including variations in color. Hubby needs some new work shirts too. I even emailed them asking about it. They said they're working with their warehouse suppliers to try and fix the problem.

  2. Let me first start off by saying:
FINALLY YOU ARE ALIVE! I'VE WAITED FOR SO LONG!

And I loveee the name of that lookbook title! Pretty genius I must say especially during this season of "holiday! Holiday! glitter, gold and sequins!"

This winter.. not much.. just my jeans. I know, super boring but they're one thing that doesn't look bad on any given day.

    1. Sam, haha. Thanks for the warm welcome back. I've had my head buried in the books. Yeah, I find myself wearing the same things every day this winter. I'm such a wimp when it comes to cold, so comfort has been trumping all else these days.

  3. I always admire women who can wear an oxford shirt and still look feminine. Uniqlo does carry some great items at good value. I love the skinny tapered jeans!

    1. Eileen, I've been wondering about Uniqlo's jeans as I've seen them around the nets. Otherwise, I'm eyeing their oxford shirts, plaids, tees and sweaters.

  4. A pant suit never goes out of style. Lovely loafers, although I personally like Oxfords more.

    1. Ada, I like both, but I wonder if oxfords are more comfortable overall, especially with the top and laces going higher...

  5. I went through a stage where all I'd ever wear was loafers. Can't go wrong with these classic pieces and that includes white shirts. Most of my basic pieces came from Uniqlo. The quality is fantastic and the clothes are so affordable.

    1. I am seriously itching to get my hands on some pieces from Uniqlo. They don't have anything left online in my size!

  6. I've been reaching for the combo of crewneck sweater + button down shirt, it's been my constant for the past couple of weeks (I've only been in winter weather for a very short while so far this year). Even though this probably means the world is crashing to an end, I do love that this winter is mild enough for me to still be able to wear my loafers! I have the black Weejuns in the Wayfarers style and I love them. Wore them day in and day out this past year which isn't very good for shoes, but they're of great quality and super comfortable, I'd recommend them.

Also I have a button up from Uniqlo and I really like the quality, although if you're boy shaped the fit might be a little awkward. I love the pattern a lot so I don't know if I'll give it up, but the shirts sometimes "flare" at the bottom (understandably so to accommodate the natural curves that many women have) but on me I feel it looks a little strange.

ALSO: So glad to see you're back!

    1. Thanks for the recommendations. We've had a pretty mild winter but it's gotten pretty cold in the last two weeks, so loafers are out for now. Also, weird about the flare at the bottom of the Uniqlo shirts! Yeah, I have no hips so that would definitely be amusing.

  7. I love the Bass Wayfarers but really struggle to find them in my size in the UK. I was after the burgundy but no one seems to be stocking them though the black are more versatile. I suppose another brand though a little more up in the price bracket would be Churchs? They have a range of loafers though not as many online as in store?

    1. Sue, I've read great things about Church's - I wish I could try them on somewhere. Have you had a chance to see them in person and try them on? Would love to know your thoughts. I don't know if I'd get them though because I'm not sure I'd wear them enough to spend so much on them. I wish you the best of luck finding the Wayfarers in the UK...funny because they are so abundant here. ;)

    2. Have you also tried Gaps Perfect Oxford Shirt? I have it in the blue colourway and think it is a really lovely soft shirt with a nice weave. I'd get it in the white if I thought I'd get some wear out of one but highly unlikely around two small boys :o)

    3. Thanks for the tip, Sue. I'll have to try it next time I'm at the mall. I know, I get white pretty dirty too.

  8. I don't like alot of patterns from uniqlo, shirts are blah, strange patterns(I am curvy and they don't fit well either), pants stretch with saggy knees. I dislike alot of fabrics and color choices from there… But I like knits and padded jackets and designer collaborations (I have uniqlo right next door and tried most things)!

    1. So jealous that Uniqlo is next door to you! I just got my first order from them in the mail, of the heattech shirts. I LOVE them. I don't know how much warmth they provide necessarily, but they are so thin, soft and comfortable. Definitely makes me want to get a few more things. Oddly enough, when we were in a store in Seoul, I didn't end up getting anything, and my husband got a bunch of stuff that he loves. I do want to try their cashmere though. I'm thinking their basics like tees are good.
