Happy weekend

I hope everyone had a great week. I spent the week recovering from a trip to California last week. Hubby had a work trip in Newport Beach and I tagged along. It happened to be my birthday on the last day of the trip, so it was a nice treat to be in LA. I got to eat great food with family, enjoyed a delicious cake (above) and attended a family baby shower.

Also, I had the chance to squeeze in a trip to A.P.C. and Barneys and try on a few things I'd been eyeing online. Some things were disappointing, while others exceeded my expectations.

tops: J Crew, Land's End / bottoms: Gap, BR / socks: F21 / journal: Moleskin / clutch: Clare Vivier

My obligatory travel packing photo above. At the last minute I swapped out the BR jeans for a pair of Sevens. Not shown is a coat, a larger bag I carried and two pairs of shoes. It's always funny going back to California after having lived there and left. The weather was gorgeous and I saw people wearing Uggs, boots and coats. What the?

We've had amazing weather here in Denver, in the 60s and 70s all week. I'm taking full advantage because it's supposed to snow next week.

  1. Happy belated BIRTHDAY! I hope this year is a great one!

I love your travel photo. You packed wisely and I love the color of your clutch.

I hear you when it comes to seeing things in person. Too often, things that look beautiful online turn out to be disappointing in the store. Of course, I always have to see them for myself.

    1. Thank you, Lindsay K! I'm usually a light packer but I was particularly happy with how I packed for this trip. I ended up wearing everything and didn't feel like there was something missing on the trip.

I've had a few misses with online purchases so I'm trying to be patient and try on things before buying the. It is challenging being in Denver as most things I can't try on here, but the waiting makes me more thoughtful about my purchases too.

    1. CamisaBlanca, thank you! It was nice to take a suitcase that was about 2/3 full - I was able to bring a few things back in it.

  3. Pret a Porter P, thanks! It was really good too - very light and fluffy and not too sweet.

    1. Thanks Liza! I didn't used to be, but over the years I've become pretty organized. Also, I like to travel light so that motivates me to think through what I'm packing.

  5. I love the pretty pastel palette of that cake (yes I saw this on your instagram first but ya know!) and even more so I love the travel pack photo above! I wish I had a soft dove grey sweater and some indigo jeans but I guess I can't get anything until April. :S

    1. I really like the grey sweater I have because it's so versatile. It's lightweight, plain and sloucy so it goes well with pretty much any of the bottoms in my closet. The material is a merino wool and linen blend so it can be dressed up or down.

I'm excited to see pics from your project. I thought about participating but there are a few things I've been eyeing so I wouldn't have been able to keep the no buying anything rule.
